Loma Alta

People often have questions when starting therapy, whether they’re new to the process or have prior experience. Below are some frequently asked questions that may help, but I’m happy to discuss any further questions during a consultation.

What can I expect from working with you in therapy?

Therapy with me provides a supportive and non-judgmental space to explore what’s on your mind—whether it’s work-related stress, relationship challenges, trauma, or the pursuit of personal growth. Our initial session will focus on understanding your unique experiences, challenges, and goals. From there, we’ll collaborate on a personalized plan using evidence-based approaches to help you navigate life’s complexities, build resilience, and foster meaningful change.

Is therapy only for people with serious mental health issues?

Not at all. Seeking therapy doesn’t mean something is “wrong” with you. Many of my clients are high-achieving professionals, caregivers, or individuals facing stress, transitions, or personal challenges. Therapy is about gaining perspective, improving well-being, and working toward your goals—whether they’re related to mental health, relationships, or personal growth.

What is your professional background?

I’m a licensed Clinical Psychologist with over 30 years of experience in therapy, clinical supervision, research, and teaching. I’ve worked as a mental health first responder, NIH-funded researcher, and professor, and I’ve trained clinicians in evidence-based therapies such as Prolonged Exposure, Cognitive Processing Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing. My work spans diverse settings, from private practice to large healthcare systems.

What makes you different from other therapists?

My extensive experience working with trauma, mood disorders, and substance use is complemented by my specialized focus on high-performing professionals managing demanding roles. Clients often describe me as warm, humorous when appropriate, and deeply attuned to their unique contexts and needs. I bring a collaborative approach that blends evidence-based practices with genuine curiosity and care, ensuring that each client feels heard, understood, and supported.

Do you accept insurance?

I do not accept insurance directly, but I can provide a Superbill for you to submit to your insurance provider for potential reimbursement if you have out-of-network benefits. This approach allows me to offer flexible, individualized care without the constraints that insurance companies often impose.

Where do you offer therapy sessions?

I provide telehealth therapy to clients throughout California and offer outdoor therapy sessions in Marin County for those who prefer an in-person experience in a natural setting.

What is your cancellation policy?

I understand that life happens. If you need to cancel or reschedule a session, please provide at least 24 hours' notice to avoid being charged the full session fee. This policy ensures that I can offer the appointment time to someone else who may need it.

Does what we talk about in therapy remain confidential?

Confidentiality is one of the most important components of therapy. Successful therapy requires a high degree of trust with highly sensitive subject matter that is usually not discussed anywhere but the therapist's office. In our work together, I discuss my confidentiality policies as part of the informed consent process. Sometimes, however, you may want me to share information or give an update to someone on your healthcare team (such as your physician, naturopath, or attorney), but by law I cannot release this information without obtaining your prior written permission.

However, state law and professional ethics require therapists to maintain confidentiality except for the following situations:

  • Suspected past or present abuse or neglect of children, adults, and elders to the authorities, including Child Protection and law enforcement, based on information provided by the client or collateral sources.

  • If the therapist has reason to suspect the client is seriously in danger of harming him/herself or has threatened to harm another person.

How do I schedule an appointment?

To schedule a complimentary 15-20 minute consultation, please contact me via the Contacts tab. I look forward to connecting with you and seeing how we can work together.
